The Foreign Affairs Review is one of the largest student-run publications at the University of St Andrews. Our subject matter varies widely, taking advantage of the unique angles our multinational writing team provides. Working with analysts from all over the world, we aim to cover a blend of topical stories and deeper analysis—exploring the issues behind international headlines. Oliver Willoughby-Jones is a fourth-year from Orange County, California studying International Relations and Modern History. He is interested in critical theory, particularly the intersection between political ecology and postcolonialism. Outside of school, he enjoys being in nature, playing guitar, and photography.

Cornelia McDowell is a fourth-year from Richmond, Virginia studying Economics and International Relations serving as the FAR’s Chief Content Editor. She is interested in International Law and International Finance with a budding fascination in Space Law. Outside of class, she is interested in Polo, travel, and hopefully going to take up golf!
Greta Shope is a third-year studying International Relations and Spanish from Richmond, Virginia. She focuses on constitutionalism around the world and global privacy rights. She also writes for the St Andrews Law Review, designs the Saint's crossword, and can often be found crafting.
Charlotte Burg is a fourth-year student from Paris studying International Relations and Psychology. She is interested in security studies, particularly relating to the EU. Outside of school, she enjoys running, baking and coffee shop hopping!
Sofia Podini is a third-year International Relations and Management student from Washington, DC. She is interested in international development issues, particularly education, business, and trade. Outside of her studies, she enjoys travelling, yoga, and walks along West Sands.
Julia Petkov is a fourth-year from New York City studying International Relations and French. She is interested in how the intersection of clean energy and emerging technologies will shape future geopolitics. Outside of class, she enjoys going on runs, hot yoga classes, and exploring news cafés!
Ela Winter is a third-year student of Classics and International Relations, originally from Adana, Türkiye and St. Louis, Missouri. She's interested in several areas of IR, but primarily focuses on postcolonial theory and the intersection between psychology and IR with the rise of personality politics. Ela has had the privilege of working for the State Department in a range of positions and is exploring career options in the diplomatic space. Ela is currently serving as School of Classics President, and enjoys reading, playing the guitar, dance, and MMA - particularly jiu jitsu.
Bryce Carroll is a second year student from Oklahoma studying International Relations. His interests include international law, climate change, as well as space law and policy. Outside of academics, he enjoys reading and travelling.
Sophie Rose Jenkins is a second-year student from Glasgow studying Comparative Literature and Classical Studies. Her topics of interest include cultural affairs and the impacts of legislation across borders. Outside of journalism, she enjoys theatre, music, and lacrosse.
Charlotte Krausz is a junior at the University of St. Andrews studying International Relations and Persian from Maryland, USA. She is interested in American foreign policy, Russia, the post-Soviet space, and the Middle East. In her free time, she enjoys creative writing, poetry, and reading.
Sofiia Yevmenkina is a fourth-year from Ukraine studying International Relations and Politics at the University of Dundee. Her main academic interests lie in political theory and political philosophy, with a particular focus on comparing Eastern European and Western political experiences. Outside of her studies, she is passionate about journalism, enjoys reading, and travelling.
Ezio Salimbeni is a second-year student from Boston, Massachusetts, pursuing a dual degree in International Relations and Philosophy. His main fields of study include the foreign policy of authoritarian regimes in an increasingly multipolar age and the evolving role of America in the global arena. Beyond academics, Ezio is a passionate rower, hiker, and golfer.
Isabel Garcia-Carrillo is a third-year International Relations student from Madrid, Spain. Her primary academic interests include counterterrorism, international security, and conflict resolution studies. Outside of academics, she enjoys swimming, skiing, surfing, and traveling with friends and family.
Molly Joachim is a first-year studying International Relations and Sustainable Development from Washington, D.C. Her academic interests focus on social sustainability in developing countries, with particular attention to Africa and the Middle East. Outside of academics, she loves to cold plunge, side quest on hikes around campus, and travel with friends.
Jupleen Kaur is a fourth-year student from Maryland studying Science and Technology in International Affairs at Georgetown University, currently studying abroad. She is interested in emerging technologies and how it shapes geopolitics. Her personal interests include running, watching TV, and exploring the coffee shops around town!
Inès-Alix Vinciguerra is a fourth-year philosophy and film studies student from Paris, France. She is particularly interested in the place of ethics and morality in international relations, as well as North African and Middle Eastern affairs. Her hobbies include traveling, skiing, writing, and sketching.
Annabelle Mackey is a first-year International Relations student from Charlottesville, Virginia. She is particularly interested in Middle Eastern and North Africa affairs, with a specialization in the Levantine and Gulf regions. In her free time, you can find Annabelle listening to music, playing the trumpet, or learning a new language.
Fabian Shelton is a second-year from Richmond, Virginia studying International Relations. His main interests in IR are American National Security and U.S. Indo-Pacific strategy. Aside from IR, Fabian is interested in fencing, golf, reading Shakespeare, and taking long mountain hikes.
Leah Rose is a second-year International Relations and Psychology major from Portland, Oregon. She is most interested in international criminal justice and drug policy. Outside of writing for the Foreign Affairs Review, she loves hiking, photography, exploring new places, and meeting new people.
Sannat Odhrani is a first-year student from India, studying International Relations, who grew up in Dubai. Her academic interests include the Middle East, particularly the contemporary manifestations of 'Orientalism' in international affairs, as well as development across the Global South. Outside of her studies, she enjoys painting, going to the gym, and listening to any and all kinds of music - the latter two preferably at the same time!
Lola Jones is a third year International Relations student from New York. Her foreign affairs interests lie in international law, the ethics of human rights practices, and the role of non-governmental organizations. In her free time, she enjoys beach runs, skiing, and cooking.
Joséphine Bon is a half-French, half-British fourth-year Arabic, Italian and Spanish student. Her main interests are refugee and asylum seeker rights and the role of language and translation in the foreign affairs sphere. When not in the library, she enjoys reading, sketching and trying out new recipes.
Alexander Ross is a postgraduate student from Dublin, Ireland currently enrolled in International Security Studies. His main academic interests centre around British Army Veterans in Southern Ireland, Intelligence Agency operations in the Cold War, Counterinsurgency and Counterterrorism especially after a formative spring semester in 2022 at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Outside of his studies he is an avid fan of Irish Rugby, sea swimming and walking his Bernese Mountain dog Monty.
Theodore Simmons is a first-year from Brooklyn, New York studying international relations and philosophy. His main interests in international relations are how the changing environment and increased resource scarcity effect nations. Beyond foreign affairs, he likes to play lacrosse or go for a run.
Yvonne Farrell is a Postgraduate student in the MLitt International Political Theory programme. She is from Kildare in the Republic of Ireland and completed her Undergraduate studies in Political Science and Economics at Trinity College Dublin. She is interested in Irish politics, political theory, and moral relativism. She enjoys sewing, horse riding, and badminton in her spare time.
Jin Liu is a first-year student from Perth, Western Australia, studying International Relations and Modern History with Divinity. She is interested in the relationship between media, culture, and international politics, with a focus on how narratives shape global affairs. Outside of school, she enjoys netball, reading, swimming, and walking.
Valentina Bianchessi is a fourth-year student pursuing a dual degree in International Relations and Economics, with a multicultural background from both Italy and Brazil. Her academic interests are particularly focused on the dynamics of space diplomacy and the influence of leadership personalities in international affairs. In her free time, she enjoys running, spending quality time with family and friends, and watching TV.
Pablo Briens Montero is a first year student from Switzerland studying International Relations, Modern History and Spanish. He is particularly interested in authoritarian regimes and war studies. Outside of academics, he enjoys travelling, watching films with friends, and going to concerts.
Giulia Liberatore is a fourth-year student from Boston, Massachusetts studying International Relations and Psychology. Her areas of interest focus around immigration, human rights and climate justice. In her free time, she loves to paint, do arts and crafts and go on lots of hikes.
Richard (R.J.) McPherson is a postgraduate student from Orlando, Florida, studying an MLitt in Global Social and Political Thought. He is interested in conflict resolution and development in Africa and postcolonialism. Outside of school, he enjoys scuba diving, traveling, and checking in with overseas friends.
Luke Gaudois is a first-year studying International Relations, who was born in London but grew up in Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore. His main foreign affairs-related interests are a direct result of living in Asia for the vast majority of his life, he’s especially interested in how soft and economic power are used within Asia. Beyond Foreign Affairs, he’s a big vinyl record collector with over 200 back home and an avid chef.
Jay Fleischmann is a second-year student from Islington, North London, studying International Relations. He is interested in foreign policy analysis, particularly how history, culture, and the individual personalities of leaders influence decision making in international affairs. Outside of university, he enjoys running, performing in his band, and watching Arsenal.
Victoria Hrvoić is a third-year studying International Relations and Business Management from Toronto, Canada. Her foreign affairs-related interests are international diplomacy and culture. In her spare time, she likes to read, ski and travel.
Francesca Taylor is a masters student from England studying Global Sustainable Development. She is interested in human security and foreign aid, with a particular focus on how states balance these commitments alongside shifting security priorities. Outside of her studies she enjoys painting, sewing, and historical reenactment.
Alexander Mahdavian is a second-year from New Jersey, studying international relations and economics. I’m interested in how improving economic policy can foster greater global cooperation. Outside of classes, I enjoy climbing, playing guitar, and Aikmans.
Kavita O'Malley is a third-year student from Washington, DC studying International Relations. She is interested in critical theories, notably postcolonial and feminist scholarship. In her free time, she loves cooking, yoga, travel, and photography.
Silvia Cribari is a third-year student from Italy, studying International Relations and English Literature. Her main academic interests following her degree are human rights, political and cultural issues, gender equality, and threats to international security. As of hobbies, she loves going out with my friends, playing tennis, travelling, and baking.
Lea von Hilgers is a first-year student from Boston, Massachusetts, studying International Relations, Sustainable Development, and Economics at the University of St Andrews. Her interests include international political economy, climate policy, and technology governance. Outside her studies, she coxes with Saints Rowing and enjoys spending time with friends and travelling.
David Wallace is a postgraduate student from Oban studying MLitt Strategic Studies. He is interested in UK-EU relations, as well as looking at nationalism, strategy, and rhetoric. Outside of his studies, he likes playing guitar, squash, and reading.
Lauren Goldman is a third-year international relations student. She is originally from a small town in Pennsylvania. Currently she is interested in the synthesis of technology and economic systems in international security, especially with the U.S. and East Asia. Outside of this, she plays tennis, likes to hike, craft, read, and travels with family and friends.
Nur Rahman is a third-year student from Islamabad, Pakistan studying International Relations and Sustainable Development. Her interests in foreign affairs have stemmed from her growing up in Pakistan, Dubai, South Africa, and London, she is particularly interested in the intersections of global health, human rights, and child well-being. Outside of her academics, Nur loves travelling, reading, trying new restaurants, and spending time at the beach.
Lucien Willey is a fourth-year from Seattle, Washington studying International Relations and Modern History. He is most interested in the intersection between history and statecraft, particularly from an Atlanticist perspective. Outside of school, he enjoys reading, hiking, and creative writing.
Sarim Farooqui is a master’s student from Pakistan studying Strategic Studies. He is interested in the Middle East and war politics, with a particular focus on conflict and security. Outside of school, he enjoys sports, especially cricket and MMA, as well as hiking.
Finlay Clark is a third-year student from Dollar, Clackmannanshire, studying International Relations. His main interests lie through the emergence of developing nations, and how they interact with established powers. Away from school, he enjoys playing golf, running, and going to the pub with friends.
